1Huh???

I am a reasonable intelligent person able to figure many things out on my own but I cannot, for the life of me, figure this program out. Yes, getting my mini-dv movie into the program was very easy and I was excited to begin the editing process. I first decided to just play around with it intuitively but found it to be very un-intuitive friendly. So I picked up the manual and read it. I STILL can't figure it out! I still haven't been able to perform a simple act like cutting a small clip out. Why? Because the timeline that moves along the video moves over pictures of the REST of the video while the real-time video plays on a separate screen. Also, you can't slow the speed of the video. Both of these things effect the precision of your cut. Another thing I don't like about this program is that it doesn't allow you to pick out clips and create a movie from them. Instead it gives you your entire video and makes you edit it as a whole. Messy. Finally, the video screen that allows you to watch real-time has an "X" button in the upper right corner that I pressed after it played a tutorial for me. I thought I was "X-ing" out of the tutorial back to my video but it turns out I "X-ed" out of the video, too. So... How do I get it back??? I've read all through the manual, looked through all the options on the screen and I can't get it back. So now I REALLY can't do anything! I've read many good reviews on this product and, obviously, people figure it out and have success. But honestly, the things that I DO know about it combined with what I DON'T know have made me so frustrated - and quite honestly angry - that I don't even want to try having success with it. This was a waste of money for me and I hope I can return it somehow.

1Not at all user friendly

I test programs as part of my job so I'm pretty good at figuring things out on my own and if I can't I am confident looking up help docs. I've used other video programs in the past. Well, I received the Movie Edit Pro 15 program as a gift and feel badly for not liking it but this is a terrible program. It seems like it does everything I need it too but it's taking way too much of my time trying to figure it out. It's not intuitive. Some of their help docs are fine and others aren't. I wouldn't recommend this product and will try to return it and upgrade to something else. I've used Corel in the past and was happy.

5Good program for the price

I've used a number of low end video editing programs (because I'm broke and can't afford Adobe programs! lol) and Magix Movie Edit Pro 15 is pretty good compared to the ones I've tried. The user interface can be tricky. Even after reading through the manual, I figured it out best by just playing around with the editing tools for myself. If you're used to using only the video editing programs that come standard with comps, i.e. Movie Maker, MMEP15 will be a godsend. There's about 30+ track layers that you can individually lock once you get it to where you want it, decent amount of graphics, and video effects, such as picture-in-picture, where you can have a photo over a video running in the background.

I haven't had any problems as far as the program crashing and I've had MMEP15 open while also running iTunes, Firefox, Paint.Net, and Limewire. ALthough it didn't crash, previewing an open project would skip, or stall, but I attribute that to me having an old computer without a lot of memory. I'm running it on a '05 P4 Gateway 512 DDR. I'm sure newew PCs with more mem might handle the program better.

After all is said and done, I'm pretty happy with the program.
