I've been struggling for years dealing my digital videos coming from different camera devices. I have a DSLR, a pocket camera, camcorder, ipod, and smartphones. They all save in different video formats. I couldn't find one app that imported from all of these let me do just the basic editing let alone adding music and transitions.
My needs are fairly simple. Import video clips, trim the fat, and out put a file that places without jitter, interlacing on other devices. So far Premiere Elements 11 has worked flawlessly on my more demanding files. I've even mixed 1080 and 720 .mts and .mov files in the same project and output a playable mp4 file without needing to take any extra steps. That's simple.
+ AVCHD .mts 1080 camcorder files
+ H.264 .mov 1080 dSLR files
+ H.264 .mov 720 camera files
I haven't tried the ipod or smartphone video files yet, but I'm feeling confident it will work just fine at this point.
A couple of years ago I tried Premiere on my dual core pc and it was terribly slow. Premiere had to import and convert mts files before I could edit them, and playback was aweful. I upgraded my pc this year (quad core) and it runs very smoothly now. I think I'm set for the next few years, until the next thing comes along.

By Herman C Chan
I was looking for an upgrade from Microsoft Movie Maker (MMM) for a few reasons.
1. New to video editing and didn't want anything too complex. I've only made one video before this purchase.
2. MMM kept crashing
3. MMM output not really clean
4. MMM is really slow
5. Wanted some more capability and control over editing that MMM didn't provide
After some web research, it was down to 3 choices: Sony Movie Studio Platinum Suite 12, Adobe Premiere Elements 11, Cyberlink Power Director 11 Ultimate. Chose Adobe due to price, availability, and brand awareness. Availability was important as I needed to get some work done and having the download option was great!
I like the fact that there are 2 User Interface modes, one for beginners and one for experts and you can toggle between the two of them during the edit. There were several times I used both within the same edit. Product was pretty easy to learn. I was able to rebuild the first 6 minutes of a 25 min video in a few hours, all while learning how to use the product without a manual (These first 6 min kept crashing MMM).
Didn't use a whole lot of effects and crazy transitions. Did get to use a few effects like zoom, shake reduction, and slow motion, which all worked well. Also used some brightness and contrast edits since much of my clips were indoors.
Was able to output a 1080P file for youtube as well as a DVD with menu. Both looked good, better than the MMM output. Here is a link to the actual vid I made with this software. [...]. All of the video was captured with a Sony HDR-CX260V, hand held, no external mic or lighting, also purchased from Amazon.
Overall, I'm very satisfied with this purchase and the ability to download and use right away was a big plus! Now I think I need to get a faster video card as rendering takes quite some time.

By Kyle
I edit videos very often and learned on Adobe Premier Pro. Premiere Pro is too expensive so I ended up looking for a good editing system for a reasonable price. I only use Premiere elements in pro version and it is just a dumbed down version of premiere pro. Premiere elements has all the features consumers need and then some.
